Build a more flexible smart home network with the SONOFF Dongle Max (Dongle-M), a standalone Zigbee gateway designed for open-source platforms such as Home Assistant and Zigbee2MQTT. It supports Ethernet, Wi-Fi and USB connectivity, with PoE support for compatible wired installations, allowing the dongle to be positioned independently from the computer or server running your automation software.

Flexible Connectivity for Smart Home Networks

The Dongle Max combines an EFR32MG24 + ESP32-D0WD-R2 dual-chip architecture with multiple connection options. Use Ethernet for a wired network connection, Wi-Fi for flexible network placement, or USB for a direct connection to a compatible host.

For supported installations, PoE can provide power and network connectivity through the RJ45 connection. This makes the Dongle Max suitable for smart-home cabinets, network installations, Home Assistant systems, Zigbee2MQTT setups and other compatible automation environments.

Ethernet, Wi-Fi and USB Connectivity

Unlike a conventional USB-only coordinator, the Dongle Max can be deployed through Ethernet, Wi-Fi or USB. This gives you more freedom to position the coordinator where it is appropriate for your network rather than being limited to the location of a USB port.

PoE Support

The Dongle Max supports Power over Ethernet through its RJ45 connection. SONOFF specifies a 48V DC, 0.25A PoE input for the device. Use a compatible PoE network source for PoE operation.

Dual Adjustable 5dBi Antennas

The device uses two adjustable 5dBi antennas, giving users flexibility when positioning the antennas within their smart-home or network installation.

Web Console and Firmware Management

The built-in web console provides access to device configuration, supported working modes and firmware management. The device can be accessed through its local mDNS address, Dongle-M.local, or its assigned IP address when available on the network.

Supported Working Modes

Dongle Max supports different operating modes for compatible applications, including Zigbee Coordinator, Zigbee Router and Thread RCP. These modes should be selected according to the intended installation and platform configuration.

Home Assistant and Zigbee2MQTT Compatibility

SONOFF designed the Dongle Max to connect Zigbee devices with open-source smart-home platforms including Home Assistant and Zigbee2MQTT. Zigbee2MQTT documents Dongle-M as an EmberZNet/EFR32MG24 adapter with Ethernet, Wi-Fi and USB connection options.
