Set your USB coordinators free: place your radios where reception is best, not where your server lives.

Most smart home coordinators (Zigbee dongles, Z-Wave sticks, Thread radios, or 433 MHz receivers) are tied to a USB port directly on your server, NAS, or mini-PC—which often sits tucked away in a rack, basement, or utility cupboard surrounded by metal and electrical interference.

The SMLIGHT SLZB-U2L transforms your existing USB smart home dongles into standalone, network-attached coordinators. Plug your USB stick into the bridge, connect to your local network via Wi-Fi or Ethernet (with optional PoE), and locate your radio centrally in your home for maximum RF coverage and rock-solid mesh stability

Powered by SLZB-OS, the SLZB-U2L exposes your coordinator over the network to Home Assistant, Zigbee2MQTT, Z-Wave JS, or IoBroker with zero cloud dependencies and no companion apps required

Key Features

  • Network-Attached USB Coordinator: Plug in your standard USB dongles and expose them over TCP/IP as networked coordinators across Ethernet or Wi-Fi.

  • Centralised RF Placement: Keep your server tucked away in the rack while placing your Zigbee/Z-Wave radio in the geometric center of your home for optimal line-of-sight and mesh coverage.

  • Multi-Radio Hub (4 Host Ports): Equipped with 3 × USB-A host ports and 1 × USB-C host port. Keep multiple sticks plugged in and switch between them via the web interface, or run two CP2102-based devices simultaneously.

  • Universal Radio Chipset Support: Works out-of-the-box with CP210x, CH34x/CH340, CDC-ACM, FTDI, STM32 VCP, and ESP-JTAG USB bridges. Fully compatible with SMLIGHT SLZB-07 series, popular Z-Wave 700/800 series dongles, Thread/Matter sticks, and SDR/LoRa receivers.

  • Powered by SLZB-OS: Includes an intuitive web interface, native WireGuard VPN integration (for linking remote locations), DDNS, over-the-air (OTA) updates, and full LED controls.

  • ESPHome Alternative Firmware: Prefer native ESPHome integration? Flash ESPHome directly for custom automations, Bluetooth Proxy capabilities, and deep Home Assistant integration.

  • Local-First & Cloud-Free: 100% private and offline. No external accounts, no cloud relays, and no vendor lock-in.

  • USB Host Ports: 3 × USB-A host · 1 × USB-C host
  • USB Device Port: 1 × USB-C (USB aggregation / local passthrough)
  • Supported USB Chipsets: CP210X, CH34X / CH340, CDC_ACM, STM32_VCP, ESP_JTAG
  • Concurrent Passthrough: 1 active device (software selectable); up to 2 concurrent devices when both utilize CP2102 UART bridges
  • Network Connectivity: 10/100 Mbps RJ45 Ethernet · 2.4 GHz 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi
  • Power Options: USB-C (5V DC) or IEEE 802.3af PoE (with optional PoE add-on module)
  • Pre-installed OS: SMLIGHT SLZB-OS (ESPHome compatible)
  • Core Features: Web management console, WireGuard VPN client, Dynamic DNS, OTA firmware flashing, network LED status controls
  • Dimensions: PCB ~131 × 49 mm

How does the SLZB-U2L communicate with Home Assistant or Zigbee2MQTT?

The bridge runs SLZB-OS, which wraps the serial communications of your USB dongle into a standard network socket (serial-over-IP/TCP). In Home Assistant (ZHA), Zigbee2MQTT, or Z-Wave JS, you simply enter the IP address and port of the SLZB-U2L (e.g., tcp://192.168.1.50:8888) instead of a local /dev/ttyUSB0 path.

Can I run multiple USB dongles at the exact same time?

You can have up to four dongles plugged in physically. In standard configuration, one dongle is actively routed over the network at a time, selectable via the web UI. If both plugged-in dongles use Silicon Labs CP2102 USB-to-UART bridges, SLZB-OS supports running two dongles simultaneously on separate network ports.

Which USB dongles and chipsets are compatible?

The SLZB-U2L supports virtually all standard USB-to-serial chips used in smart home adapters, including:

  • Silicon Labs: CP2102, CP2104, CP210x (used in SMLIGHT SLZB-07 series, Sonoff ZBDongle-E/P, Zooz Z-Wave 700/800 sticks)
  • WCH: CH340, CH341, CH34x
  • Standard USB CDC-ACM: Native USB controllers, STM32 Virtual COM Ports (VCP), and Espressif ESP-JTAG

Do I need to run an Ethernet cable to use it?

No. The SLZB-U2L has integrated 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, allowing it to connect wirelessly to your local network using just a standard 5V USB-C power supply. An RJ45 Ethernet port (and optional PoE) is available for users who prefer the stability of a hardwired connection.

Can this bridge connect a remote building or holiday home back to my central server?

Yes. SLZB-OS includes an integrated WireGuard VPN client. You can deploy the bridge at an offsite location, connect it to local Wi-Fi/Ethernet, and tunnel the serial stream securely back to your main Home Assistant instance over encrypted WireGuard.

Does it require a cloud account or third-party subscription?

No. Like all SMLIGHT hardware, the SLZB-U2L operates completely locally within your LAN. No external servers, accounts, or telemetry are required.
