SMLIGHT SMHUB

The SMLIGHT SMHUB is a professional-grade, Linux-based smart home hub built for local automation, multi-radio connectivity and modular expansion. It runs smart-home applications directly on the device, including Zigbee2MQTT, Mosquitto MQTT, Matterbridge and Node-RED, allowing you to build and manage a flexible local-first smart home without depending on a cloud platform for core automation.

SMHUB combines two independent Zigbee/Thread radio systems with Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth, while optional expansion modules add Z-Wave, 4G/LTE and PoE capabilities. The platform is designed for advanced smart-home users, developers, integrators and installations that need local control and hardware flexibility.

Local Smart Home Automation

SMHUB runs its applications locally on an embedded Linux system. Zigbee2MQTT manages compatible Zigbee devices, Mosquitto provides local MQTT messaging, Node-RED handles automation flows, and Matterbridge can expose compatible Zigbee devices to Matter ecosystems such as Google Home and Apple Home.

The hub can also be used with platforms such as Home Assistant, OpenHAB and HomeSeer through supported protocols and integrations. Home Assistant itself runs on your own server rather than directly on the SMHUB.

Dual Zigbee and Thread Radio Architecture

SMHUB contains two independent radio systems. The SMHUB Essential uses a Texas Instruments CC2652P and Silicon Labs EFR32MG21, while the SMHUB Premium uses a Texas Instruments CC2674P10 and Silicon Labs EFR32MG24.

This dual-radio design can be used for two separate Zigbee networks, a Zigbee network alongside a Thread network, or other supported coordinator configurations.

Modular Expansion

The SMHUB is designed to grow with your installation. Optional modules can add additional connectivity and power options without replacing the main hub.

• PoE Module: IEEE 802.3af Power over Ethernet for power and network connectivity over one Ethernet cable.
• Z-Wave Module: Adds Z-Wave 700/800-series controller capability, including Long Range and S2 security.
• 4G/LTE Module: Adds cellular connectivity for remote installations or backup WAN use.
• UPS Module: Battery-backed power expansion is part of the SMHUB modular platform and is listed by SMLIGHT as in development.

Important Early Adopter Information

Because this is an Early Adopter release, SMHUB features can change as SMHUB-OS develops. SMLIGHT documents that some hardware features and peripherals are enabled progressively through firmware and software updates.
